Photomosaics

"I am most inspired by making something extraordinary from something ordinary."

Artist Jennifer Hellman's distinctive Photomosaics are each born from a single photograph--kelp on the beach; the face of a cathedral; a torn cardboard box--any number of discovered details that capture her eye and imagination.

From a distance, her art appears abstract and is often mistaken for a painting. Assembled from a diverse collection of materials and mastered techniques, the mosaics are meticulously hand-built to bridge the worlds of photography and sculpture.

Jennifer's unique ability to intertwine concrete and abstract perspectives compels the viewer to pause and look deeper, as the enigmatic design gradually unfolds.

Since 1997, her images have served as the base for her unique art-form ‘Photomosaics’.

Galleries and shows on both the east and west coasts have represented Jennifer’s work, including New York area’s Dean Street Gallery, Studio 4 West Gallery, and the International Contemporary Furniture Show at the Jacob Javits Center.  In Los Angeles, her mosaics have been showcased at Gensler Architecture, Resin Gallery, Manhattan Beach Country Club, Shade Hotel, Petros Restaurant, Home of the Avenues in Bel Air and in Luxe Magazine.

Jen’s signature Photomosaics are created for corporate clients, interior designers, galleries and private collectors around the world.  Their global appeal stems from an uncommon presentation of texture, depth and imagery - offering a contemporary work that is inspirational, identifying and transcends the conventional.

Photography

Jen’s passion for image-making began early in childhood watching the magic of her father developing photographs in their basement darkroom. Over the years, she was driven to create unique ways to evolve her photography to deeper artistic expression. Since then, her focus is combining her greatest passions of global travel and photography to create a body of work that is varied but most often capturing human stories, and wildlife’s tender, heart-stopping moments. Returning home to photograph her own California’s South Bay beaches gives her great joy.

As the years pass, the expression of her images keeps evolving, but her lifelong journey of creativity will always begin behind the lens of her camera.
